Reviews:

"With the beautiful, soft publication Offent-lighedes rum ... it [is] rare to see a book, which is so seriously playful and explorative as this one. ... The book's pages swarm with life.

Simmel: Sociologiens eventyrer (2019)

English title: Simmel: The Adventurer of Sociology

Simmel_ Sociologiens eventyrer.png

One of the modern founders of sociology. And at the same time the constant outsider of the discipline. In 2018 it was 100 years ago that the German sociologist Georg Simmel (1858-1918) died. Nonetheless, his analyses of modern society still stand as fresh and relevant in their originality today. The book has two parts: 15 texts by Simmel and ten articles about his sociology.

The book is edited by Søren Christensen, Nils Gunder Hansen, Simon Langkjær, Martin Hauberg-Lund Laugesen og Joachim S. Wiewiura.

Moreover, Joachim S. Wiewiura and Martin Hauberg-Lund Laugesen contributed with one chapter to the second part of the book: "Simmel and dialectics: On Simmel's thought and the internal unrest of the forms of sociology."

Simmel: Sociologiens eventyrer, Nyt fra Samfunds-videnskaberne, 447 pages.

"A treasury of a book"

Steen Nepper Larsen, Information

"The underlying message in this Danish book project is that researchers must avoid stagnating within their specific niches and disciplines, and that they - as Simmel did - make an effort to make the social sciences both intellectually entertaining and existentially relevant. This is exactly what this book has shown - and accomplished - to a degree that it also has stimulated the essayistic style of yours truly.

Kampen om mennesket: Forskellige menneskebilleder og deres grænsestrid (2018)

English title: The battle of man: Different images of man and their clashes

Kampen om mennesket.jpg

What is the nature of human beings? And how should society be organized?

Behind every political argument some conception answering the above questions lur. These conceptions are often multifaceted and informed by different scientific backgrounds and ideals of what a human being should be.

It is common for these "images of man" to posit their own universality, that is, to think they count for all human beings. But that does not mean they are shared by every human being. Far from it. Instead, they participate in a battle to pass on their own understanding of man to the highest number of people.

The book is edited by David Budtz Pedersen, Finn Collin og Frederik Stjernfelt.

Joachim S. Wiewiura has written chapter 12, "The public arena", pp. 359-395.

In its brevity, this book is unique for bringing together different original scholarly publications (from Mladen Dolar’s internationally acclaimed psychoanalytic approach to Ray Land’s educationally ground-breaking theory of curricula) and, as such, provides a wide spectrum of insightful ideas on education and learning for university teachers, students and administrators at the university level.

Edited by Elias Westergaard and Joachim S. Wiewiura
